Before the networking we know today, people could use blogs and BBS which allowed them to share data and leave messages but only one person could be online at once, which was not very useful.

Social networking started in the late 90s and early 2000s with a few small dating websites but social networking became more popular with Myspace in 2005 and for a few months, Myspace had more page views than Google. After that even more social networking website were created and became popular, such as Facebook and Twitter.

These websites and applications all came with advantages and disadvantages. For example, it made staying in contact and getting daily updates of family members and friends easier because all you have to do is log on to internet, but it also helps private information, rumours and less flattering pictures of you spread very quickly. So now days, we have to be careful with what we post online because once an information is on the web, it's very hard to erase and there could be some serious consequences.

To make things easier, we created this blog in which we list a bit of information about popular social networking websites and application.
